Canadian catcher Russell Martin is among prominent 2010 non-tendered free agents.

Fifty-two players became free agents yesterday in compliance with Major League Rule 3(h)(1) that establishes that on or before December 2 (this date changed this year, before was Dec. 12), each Major League Club must tender a Major League Uniform Player's Contract to each unsigned player on its 40-man Roster. If a Club fails to tender a contract, the player becomes a free agent. Among the most intriguing new free agents there are Bobby Jenks the White Sox's World Series closer in 2005; catcher Russell Martin, a two-time All-Star (2007-08) who won a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger in 2008; righty John Maine who won 25 games in 2007-2008 with the Mets and owns a career 4.35 ERA in MLB but was hit by injuries the last two seasons; 27-year-old slugger Edwin Encarnacion who hit 21 HRs in 96 games (.482 SLG) in 2010. Six players were non-tendered for the second year in a row: Taiwanese righty Chien-Ming Wang, Jack Cust, Ryan Church, D.J. Carrasco, Jose Veras and Dustin Moseley.
