Opening Day 40-Man Rosters include almost one-third of non-USA players
The opening day 40-Man Rosters of MLB Teams include 366 (31,72%) players born outside the USA. A similar research, I made at the start of the 2004 season, revealed that 29,42% of players on 40-Man rosters were foreign players: after six years, the percentage is increased by 2,3%, another sign of the international growth of the game.
The Dominican Republic confirmed itself as the international powerhouse (not to mention the USA) with 145 players (39,62%), followed by Venezuela (24,59% with a + 4,65%) and Puerto Rico (7,65%) that lost much ground (- 5,83%); Canada is fourth (6,28%) and overtook Mexico. Two intriguing new entries are the Netherlands and the Netherlands Antilles. The complete list:
