Italian Baseball League mid-season report

logoIBL.gifIBL is halfway with 21 of its 42 regular season games in the book, so it’s time to make a snapshot at mid-term. Bologna (with the best pitching staff) and San Marino (with a strong lineup) lead the standings at 16-5, with current IBL champions Parma third at 13-8; Nettuno and Rimini at 11-10 share the fourth place good for the post-season; Grosseto follows by 1 game (10-11); Godo (5-16) & Novara (2-19) are fall behind.

LEAGUE LEADERS:

Batting Average: Lorenzo Avagnina (S. Marino) .397; HR: Carlos Duran (S. Marino) 5; RBI: Bryant Nelson & Mario Chiarini (Rimini) 21; SB: Olmo Rosario (Nettuno) 11.

ERA: Darwin Cubillan (S. Marino) 0.00 (18.1 IP); W: Fabio Betto (Bologna) 6; SO: Tiago Da Silva (S. Marino) 47.

Notes: Edgar Clemente (Bologna) is enjoying a very good season with a line of .390/.448/.545; Bologna’s reliever Victor Moreno, released by Detroit out of spring training back in march, owns an ERA of 0.96 in 18.2 IP (24 K/4 BB; 0.80 WHIP); Dominican righty Jesus Matos (Bologna) is among the league leaders with 5-1, 1.87 ERA & 37 K; former big-leaguer Josh Phelps, now with Rimini, is hitting .314/.446/.429; OF Williams Vazquez (S. Marino) is one of the best hitters in the IBL with .364/.495/.584 and 4 HRs; former big-leaguer IF Luis Maza (Grosseto) is hitting .303; Spanish outfielder Luis Perez is red-hot with a line of .372/.444/.513.
