Marines, Wyverns, Elephants claim titles in Asian professional Leagues

chiba.jpgThe Chiba Lotte Marines (pictured) surprisingly won the Japan series beating the heavily favoured Chunichi Dragons 4 games to 2 (with a tie). It’s Chiba’s first title since 2005, when the team was managed by Bobby Valentine. Season Stats leaders: Norichika Aoki (Yakult) was the best hitter in the Central League batting .358, while Venezuelan-star OF Alex Ramirez (Yomiuri) claimed the HR (49) & RBI (129) titles; Matt Murton (Hanshin) set the new all-time single season record for hits (214) breaking the mark set by Ichiro Suzuki in 1994 (210) while playing with Orix. Kenta Maeda (Hiroshima) was arguably the best picher finishing first with 2.21 ERA, 15 W & 174 K, while Hitoki Iwase (Chunichi) was the best closer with 42 SV. In the Pacific League, Tsuyoshi Nishioka (Chiba) led the circuit with .346 BA, Takahiro Okada (Orix) was the homerun king with 33 round-trippers and Eiichi Koyano (Nippon Ham) was first with 109 RBI. The best PL pitcher was Yu Darvish (Nippon Ham) who led the league with 1.78 ERA & 222 K; Tsuyoshi Wada (Softbank) & Chihiro Kaneko (Orix) topped the winning column with 17 Wins, while Brian Sikorski (Seibu) was the best closer with 33 SV. 2010 Awards.

The SK Wyverns clinched the best-of-seven Korea Baseball Organization Series sweeping (4-0) the Doosan Bears. Lotte corner infielder Lee Dae-ho is the MVP and Doosan catcher Yang Eui-ji is the Rookie of the Year of the KBO.

In Taiwan, the Brother Elephants defeated the Sinon Bulls 6-1 in Game 4 of the Taiwan Series to sweep the annual Fall Classic behind a two-hit CG by Jim Magrane. 2010 CPBL Awards.
